Newb Here - What is the End Game Like

[:1]I really got excited about GW2, but since we have no idea when it is comming out, My buddy and I decided to try out GW1.

Did about 9 hours of the 10 hour free trial, and got to level 9 in Prophecies, but found out that we coudn't PVP or Group up, so we shelled out $30 for the trillogy which seemed like a good deal.

My MMO background is DAOC, WoW and Warhammer.

My question is.. is the endgame PvP? It appears that loot doesn't really matter in this game, so outside of getting all my skills and beating each campaign is there a lot to do?

What does a day in the life of an end game player look like?

Also, is the level cap really just 20?|||* Hi! Welcome :D

* Yes, the level cap is 20. Don't think of this as the highest you'll be though. The game essentially starts at 20 and most content is balanced for level 20. You can still get better as a player.

* The endgame is a mix of things. In the beginning, yes, the endgame was supposed to be PvP, but the PvE was just too fun for some people. As the games have aged and more content has come out, there's certainly a lot of things to do for someone who's only just completed the 3 campaigns + one expansion. A small selection:

Casual PvP, Competitive PvP, Objective based PvP, Titles (this is your legacy connecting you to GW2, essentially), collections of things, personal challenges, finding optimal and fun builds for you and your team whether it's a human team, AI team or mix of both, figuring out the ins and outs of your class(es) of choice, learning how all the classes work, Oh, and the good old "playing for fun" which a lot of people seem to forget about ^_^.

While the majority of your playing will be quests and missions, there are a few end game style areas such as the Underworld and Fissure of Woe which are an 8-man area full of various quests and 2 twelve-man area. These are sort of like your big dungeons, with various loot along the way and rewards at the end.

* Loot *can* matter. While getting max equipment is easy and cheap to do, there are people who pride themselves on getting rare weapons or things that are hard to obtain or simply not obtainable anymore.

There's still a lot to do in GW. There's a big push on maxing out various titles for the GW2 link-over, so you'll find a lot of people doing various things.

* An average day of an end-game player?

Hmmm. Maybe do the pre-searing Nick collector (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nicholas_Sandford) to work on consumable titles. See if the Zaishen bounties are anything I need for a title (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zaishen_Challenge_Quest). See if my friends need help with anything. Plan a weekend activity with the guild. Have a shop around for some bargains of a weapon I really like. (My personal favourite weapon of all time is the Composite Recurve bow ). Play a few rounds in Jade Quarry, a PvE based PvP casual battle while waiting for guildies to show up to go do a mission or a few battles in Heroes ascent.

I've been here 73 months and still haven't done everything :)

I realise a lot of the things I just said will have gone wooooooooosh over your head, it's okay, we've all been there :D http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page This is our main wiki, just plop any words or phrases you don't know about into that and woosh! Instant answers. Or just keep asking questions here!

Hope you both enjoy GW :D|||Endgame for PvE players is many things...

1) titles, especially GWAMM... it's like achievements but most of them are based on stuff that matters

2) Filling up the hall of monuments (HoM)

3) Hard mode... which lets you replay everything but at higher difficulty

4) Vanquishes

5) Dungeons and elite areas

I realize it's a lot to look for, but feel free to wiki those things, and see what you're interested in.|||Thought that you may like to hear from the Point of View of another new player (me).

I have been playing on 6 months after doing the trial like you, I find the game very fun. Going through all of the quests and beautiful scenery, playing with your friends in instances that are private for your group. (No kill stealing) But my guess is you wanted to know more along the lines of pvp.

I have just started getting into the PvP as of late, it is pretty nicely balanced between all the professions, it is also easy to learn but hard to master which I find appealing in a MMORPG. You can play PvP using any PvE character, or you can create a PvP only that starts at max level, and has access to any skill, item, or hero you have unlocked on any character, or bought using faction (the PvP reward)

You can also head to factions campaign and join in alliance battles between the Luxons (The red team, standing for strength) or the Kurzicks (The blue team, standing for artistic views, and less on strength) these factors don't affect gameplay. Pick a side and help them in their war for faction of their type, earning you armor, skills and possibly the rights for your guild to control a city.

No matter what you do in this game, there are titles (doing specific things to earn for GW2) PvE, hard mode, and tons more. You won't run out of things to do. It is purely a fun game.

P.S. I know the level cap sounds like a let down, it did to me as well, but you will learn that this game revolves around skill more than a players level, so there is less grinding and more perfecting your tactics in a fight. This way everyone has a chance to be equal. Most of the game (outside what is considered the tutorial quests) have monsters at or above level 20. It provides balance but also a challenge. The level should not put anyone off of this game, no matter their gaming background.

I hope this helped.

If you need any help, or just want to hang out in game, feel free to add and PM my characters.
