Why are most quest rewards awful

okay so i thought about it and like 3/4 of the quest in this game have crappy rewards. Especially the tyria ones that don't give skills. Most quest give mostly experience points and a really low amount of gold. The only quest I found useful are ones where it spawns a lot of mobs so you can farm them or gives skill rewards. Or the ones where you are heading through to get to the next mission location and they are on the way. So why are most quest rewards soooo awful?|||Because the reward is less about the "bling" and more about the "fun"?

Oh wait, most MMO players care more about the former then about the later.

Oh yeah, it also helps with survivor characters, skill-hunters and consumable-crafters. But who cares about that, right?|||Quote:

Believe it or not I do read quest logs.|||What more do you want? Epic swords, overpowered armors?

The level cap is 20, so after a while the exp reward is really useless unless for the situations I mentioned. Free gold is always free, but since there are quicker ways to get it it's not time-efficient.

So the only thing left is the fun factor. People enjoy the lore in the quests, others do them because it's fun. Clearing the UW of its quests might not be profitable (each quest rewards 10k experience) but it's fun and people do it because of that.

You really can't give better rewards because they would either:

1 - Be too good and render the end-game content obsolote, reward-wise.

2 - Be too little and do them for the fun only (current situation).

Long story short, do the quests if you like and have fun doing them. Do something else if you want to do something more rewarding.|||Quote:

What is this free gold is always free farming with a sin/power trading? Sounds like fun...|||They're low because the cost of everything you can possibly need in the game is also extremely low.|||Quote:

When I said free gold I mean't the gold rewards that come with some quests. But yes, powertrading and sin farming are way more efficient then doing these quests for the gold only.

This.

A max weapon costs 5k + mats. A full set of regular armor costs 7.5k + mats.

Considering the gold rewards from missions, they can't start giving out 2k and 3k for every quest. It's not Anet's fault that the players inflate the market by trading cosmetic items for 100k + xx ectos.|||I enjoy quests. I wish there were more of them, and I wish there'd be new ones periodically. I know some of them are frustrating, such as those in which I have to escort someone through hostile territory, but they're still enjoyable. Experience points are useful for getting skill points that are needed for things like consumable sets and perfect salvage kits.|||The tyrian ones were designed on the scale of the game at that point in time.

Getting max weapons right away with good mods was never something they anticipated way back when.

That being said, if you check the weapons offered, some of them have fairly good stats for their requirement. I like to keep a couple for newbie charas here and there.

(14-26 bow with only r6? That's fairly impressive to me)

But yes, 500g and 500 exp for some quests... kinda feels lacking.

Factions changed that with high exp and some good cash, as well as items you could turn in for things normally available from merchant. NF continued this, and also gave us hero skill points for buying skills.

Eye of north just combined them all.

Unfortunately, this is where proph is really starting to show it's age. The rewards aren't bad, but compared to other things nowadays, they're not good.

But the amount of time and effort involved in changing all that...

Basicly, don't expect it to happen any time soon. Like... in the next 2-3 years or so.|||Prophecies quest rewards did blow.

I think it was trying to be conventional in a game that didn't need to be.
