Alright So Im new as you can tell. I've been doing missions and quests. I have gotten spells from quests but how do i get more? Im a Necro / Ele.
Is it by spending attricute points?|||Ah, well that's... A good question actually.
First of all, assigning your attribute points just raises the effectiveness of most skills or spells (some aren't linked to attributes, but most are.)
Soul Reaping, your primary attribute as a necromancer is a bit different. There aren't many skills linked to it but raising that attribute will give you energy when something dies.
So, don't ignore that attribute.
Anyway, back to the spells.
Depending on what campaign you are in there are different ways to get spells in the starter areas. In prophecies you can pick up free spells and skills by doing some quests. Later on, you can buy more at skill trainers.
The skill trainers will charge you a small amount of gold and a skill point. Don't worry about spending skill points, you will get one for each level you gain and though 20 is the maximum level you can attain, you will keep getting points for each level you earn beyond level 20.
In Factions, you can get a few skills and spells by doing quests from Shing Jea Monastery. Each of the skill trainers will have a few quests and then you can get some more by doing the "insignia training" - basically pick up all the insignia training quests when they become available. You don't actually have to do the quest in question, but it's good for some extra xp, so why not...
In Nightfall things are a bit different.
There are a few skills available early in the tutorial areas, and then there are skill trainers in Kamadan, Sunspear Great Hall and in some of the surrounding towns. But, there are also "Hero Skill Trainers".
The Hero Skill Trainers are a bit like the normal Skill Trainers, except they don't want gold for their skills. You can pay with Hero Skill Points. You get those as you gain ranks in the Sunspear title and later on the Lightbringer title. Now, the trainer will tell you that the skill is for your heroes, but spending a hero point will also unlock the skill for your account - and on the character you are currently playing.
So, be sure to check out what you can get for free now - or in a few ranks before you go and spend your gold at the regular Skill Trainer.
That's it I guess. If you want any help in the game you can send me a whisper if I'm on and if I'm not busy slaying mobs or being killed by something big and nasty, I'm typically playing on my necromancer, Sadie Everdark.|||Spells from quests means Prophecies character...list of trainers
Attribute points are flexible, and increase potency of your skills...you can change these any time you want when in a town.
Skill Points are used along with gold to buy skills (or Signet of Captures, to get elite skills). Price goes up as you buy skills, to cap at 1k gold per skill.|||Quote:

My advice is that you should never skip ahead with runners if you're a newcomer. You need all the possible experience and low level training you can find.|||Quote:

I only mentioned that because that's what most veterans of the game do these days to get to level 20/survivor asap... But, obviously that kills half the wonder and all of the fun of creating a new character and re-experiencing the beginner areas as they're meant to be played.|||My advice would be...wiki is your best friend. If you're looking to unlock a few skills, make sure you find out if they are obtainable from other sources other than the skill trainers. You can get quite a few skills for *absolutely nothing (just a little foot work in game).
*Meaning coin-wise.|||Well, the other side of the coin would be that wiki is your worst enemy if you're new to the game and want to progress at your own pace.
It is very tempting to just read the walkthroughs of the missions and never actually try to solve them on your own.|||DO NOT LOOK AT WIKI until you've completed a chapter. That's the fast track for ruining any fun you might have had.|||Very true on the spoilers. I only meant that if he/she was going to try to unlock skills, to search those first on the wiki to find out if they can be gotten for "free" vs having to spend skill points/coin.
