returning player - advice on what to play? (PVE)

Hi, im starting to play GW again and I am trying to decide on what class to play... I started a ranger the other day in factions and he is level 20 already (playing in factions) however Im finding him a little boring as I feel gimped and I find that I make little difference to my team.

I have been thinking about starting to play my necro again (nightfall) hes level 19 and I was running him as a MM - however I will be moving away from MM and leaving that to a hero. (if I decide to pick him up again)

Basically I want to know your opinions on what the most fun, involving, diverse class in the current game.

classes that interest me:

Necro

Ranger

Elementalist

ritualist

Mesmer

I would also like to know what heroes are best suited for what and what they're not good at doing so I can complement my group better (ie I would rather have a heroe as a MM rather than being one myself)

what can a N/rt do better and worse than a Rt/N? which would be able to fill more roles?

sorry for the questions, just trying to get my head around all the changes :)

//Nebs|||N/Rt is better in the regards of energy management, with inherent from soul reaping + signet of Lost Souls...good for restoration or high-energy spells/spamming.

Rt/N good summoner, as they have longer life with spawning power, can toss in a weapon spell or two to help party.

Rits can do decent at pretty much any role in the game, with the proper skills.

Rangers are pretty diverse, can do Signet of Spirit spammer, run around with Scythes/Daggers/Swords, trap(limited use), traditional disruptor(conditions, interrupts), or grab a spear(or staff) and take a stroll with your pet...

Ele's - Fire is good AoE damage (+ mass burning), other elements have useful conditioning spells, snares and average damage.

Mesmer - good interrupter, Visions of Regret is nice for a fire and forget hex. Signet of Illusions is fun to mess with.

Necro - Spiteful Spirit/Spoil Victor are rather useful late game and Hard Mode, Discord is a popular all-Necro team*.

And I'm sure there are other uses I haven't mentioned...

*not necessarily all N/X, X/N is probably more common for most of the team.|||thanks for the reply - been doing some thinking as basically I would like to ask what would be the most beneficial class to play as a human? taking into account what heroes can and cant do well?

Basically, what are the most enjoyable hero teams to play (pve) and what human character fits in with said build better than most?

sorry if this question doesn't make sense... just finished work and im a bit tired :)

//Nebs

EDIT: for example If i was to play my necro I could run sabway with me being either the n/rt healer or the curser (or the MM but as I said I dont want to be a MM this time around)|||I can say that I like Ranger & Rit the best of those listed. Ele is decent for certain farms, I prefer to leave interrupting and MM to heroes.

What I like, others don't...so I can only provide my opinion...you may have to try them all to get your personal preference.|||thanks for your response... just out of interest what build(s) do you use on your ranger? (and with what heroes)|||Mesmer and rangers are played better by heroes, since they're at their best when they are interrupting, and in HM that can be pretty difficult to pull off. Heroes never miss an interrupt. Rangers in particular can be pretty lacking in usefulness since their damage is not so hot. Humans can play mesmers as damage dealers, although it can feel cheesey... i.e. spamming Empathy.

Necro MMs as you said are better played by heroes, especially minion bombers.

Necro curses can be fun as a human.

Eles are purely a support class when it comes to HM. If you like feeling like you're massively contributing to the party's survivability rather than doing damage, it can be fun.

Rits are basically demanded to play spirit spammer in PUGs, but they have some fun builds to run when you're on your own. Otherwise, best played by a hero, sort of like a MM.

Long story short, heroes are better than you at almost everything so play what you like. |||Quote:

I always bring 1 monk hero with Unyeilding Aura (healing)

then usually:

Unsteady Ground Ele (with Deep Freeze)

Tease mesmer (mostly interrupts, Channeling + Hex Eater Signet for e-management)

-------------------

Signet of Spirits:

Signet | Bloodsong | Vampirism | Painful Bond | Siphon Spirit | Summon Spirits | optional | optional |

mainly to farm, with no heroes...or a monk and whatever else

------------------

Burning Arrow:

Burning Arrow | Expert Focus | Hunters Shot (or other attack) | Penetrating Attack | Distracting Shot | Lightning Reflexes | Res/optional |optional

------------------

Pet spear or staff...

Heal as One | Great Dwarf Weapon | Call of Haste | Otyugh's Cry | Poisonous Bite | Scavenger's Strike | optional | optional

{poisonous bite can be swapped for any guaranteed condition skill..}

Orders Necro + motivation Para OR Ebon Dust Aura derv are good alternate heroes

------------------

Incendiary Arrows

Incendiary Arrows | Apply Poison | Lightning reflexes |Distracting Shot| Natural Stride (optional) rest of the build is your choice

used to vanq with this + Sabway heroes|||Quote:

I think almost all GW players will disagree with me, but I think far and away the best class to H/H with is para, for a few reasons.

Paras are ranged offensive characters, which makes directing your h/h much easier.

For example, a healing monks heroes will stand around doing nothing until they get attacked unless the monk charges in and attacks. The human monk will also be annoyed at trying to direct and call targets when that's not really a monk's job.

Likewise, melee chars are going to have a more annoying field of view in terms of directing the battle, and may be hampered in attacking the target you really want. A warrior in Deep Freeze or body blocked is going to have trouble getting the heroes to concentrate on the enemy monk kiting in the backlines.

Also, paras -almost by default- have incredible defense and offense rolled in to one character. That means the heroes support you with things you can't/don't want to do, but really you're the one that determines success or failure. Paras hit hard, so you will be a massive part of the offence of your team and at the same time your defensive shouts are critical to keeping your caster support alive.

This is mostly assuming you don't just run a boring imbagon, but if you enjoy that, it works very well also.|||Quote:
