I recently bought a second copy of guild wars in the steam sale (my aion account was hacked and I didn't want to go into guild wars 2 with a hacked master account - long story...) anway, I've managed to cart all the good miniature pets and items across from my old account and I currently have a level 13 dervish.
I am really enjoying the scythe style play but I find a few things, firstly he is soooooo squishy. I haven't played in a long time but I'm being 3 shotted by mobs a level lower then me and can barely tank two mobs at once. I'm not usually the one to run in first either, the enemy seems to kind of naturally pick me first. :(
I'm currently in EOTN questing with a friend and I'm unsure whether dervish is really my playstyle. I don't know if I can handle grinding the nightfall marks again to get back to where I am in the campaign with my dervish tho :/
I always play a mage in mmo's and my past account had a lvl 20 elementalist and assassin, so I know how to play both reasonably well but I find my dervish is completely rubbish. He is hitting 30 - 50 damage (with aoe hits) and is often hit for up to 200. I have bought the sunspear armor set and have the weapon reward for the eotn hero tactics challenge.
Does anyone have a good build or suggestion as to how to approach my dervish? I know this is probably very confusing but I hate having to wait till half the fight is over just to run in and I know I have to be doing at least a few things wrong.
Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to start a new char if it means I can continue my scythe loving dervish :P
Thank you for any tips :)

The dervish is generally considered less squishy than assassins (except for perma shadow form ones). By the way, I got survivor (3) with my dervish, it was my first melee survivor... did it the old-fashioned way, before the survivor update, and before even the dervish update. Also, I've seen dervishes tank as well as warriors in endgame content. So rest assured, they're durable... now let's figure out what you're doing wrong ;)
Dervishes are also quite capable damage-dealers. They excel at hitting clumps of foes with the scythe. AoE damage from enchants are usually not that good, they're more of a bonus in addition to the scythe damage. I haven't touched my dervish main in a while, so I'm not current in builds... but my impression is that you want to spread in 3 of your 4 attribute lines, with either wind or earth. Wind/earth/mysticism is more for buffs, utility, and survival, and scythe for damage.|||hi :)
thanks for the quick reply.
I'm not entirely sure how to post my build but basically I put most of my points into scythe mastery with the leftovers into mysticism.
I'm a warrior for my second profession as I thought having the ability to generate adrenaline faster and increase my defense a little more would be beneficial.
I'm more then happy to go and take some in game screenshots of my inventory and stat distribution if that would help :O
btw i tried making an elementalist but just didn't find the fun in it, nothing like my scythe swinging badass (despite being slightly crippled in damage and life span atm)|||What are your armor values? If you still have the armor you started with, you may want to consider buying some better armor. If you're using Runes that lower HP (superior/major), it makes you a more likely target for foes.|||Mob threat in Guild Wars is determined by different things than you may be used to in other MMOs. Your armor class and health pool are part of the equation, so if you're still wearing starter gear or you're using too many superior runes, you'll be a priority target for enemies.
I bumped this thread over to the Questions forum for you.|||I bought the sunspear armor jack, it's +25 armor on each piece plus health and energy on some subsequent pieces. I looked into getting the EOTN armor, but it costs about 5 plat to make the set not including material cost. That is about 65 armor each, which I think would greatly help. I'm still trying to find a good weaon, my scythe is the quest reward which is 9 - 41 damage + 20% damage increase.
I'm also completely lost for builds, I haven't found a good pve build as of yet. I looked around but they were a lot of numbers and terms I didn't quite have a grasp of yet :/
edit: ok, thanks bell|||To post your build, you only really need to say what skills you're using, and your attribute point distribution. No need to screenshot it.
You should get max armor (70 armor per piece), and then I like to put a sup (or major) vigor, 1-2 major for attribute points, and the rest survivor or vitae. Some people have different preferences, but that should work fairly well to keep you alive.
EotN is meant to be more challenging. I suggest you practice in Nightfall, and perhaps Factions, before EotN. Prophecies is pretty easy, perhaps too easy for most of it. Nightfall is of course the best place because you'll get access to more skills for your derv too.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide...g_as_a_dervish
Some skills I can remember liking for some reason or another:
Mysticysm: Aura Slicer, Avatar of Grenth, Avatar of Dwayna, Faithful intervention, Heart of fury
Scythe: Chilling Victory, Radiant Scythe, Twin moon sweep, victorious sweep, wounding swipe, zealous sweep,
Earth: mystic regeneration
Wind: grenth's aura, featherfoot grace|||I still don't have access to a lot of those skills. I did find two particular builds that would work well tho:
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Build:D/E_...olition_Scythe
That focus's on scythe + elementalist fire dmg so I could satisfy my mage desires but also play my dervish - not sure if it's too mage focused tho.
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Build:D/any_VoS_General_PVE
This looks pretty awesome, focuses a lot on scythe and surviving which could help in eotn environment.
I'll try get my friend to help me transfer my money across tomorrow, would you say the eotn armor is worth the 7 or so plat? It'd be a major armor boost. I'll have a read of the dervish guide u linked also :)
I found nightfall to be quite harsh, a lot of the monk ai seemed almost retarded at times. Made progressing quite difficult when I was being hit for 50 - 60 with enemy skills.
One final question for this post at least, where would be a good place to get a new weapon? The guy only had a white scythe for me at the eotn tunnel entrance, hardly a powerful weapon :p|||The Vow of Strength one seems pretty standard, it uses a lot of skills I've used before... except the elite. I would change that elite for either an avatar for extra survival ability, or for wounding strike for extra damage. I think the condition of hitting foes that don't have conditions will be hard to meet in PvE unless you design your team around that.
I usually take two heal/prot characters for a team of 8.
Scythe: you can rely on drops if strapped for cash, or buy a green scythe in Kamadan from other players. Crafting one would work too. I tend to rely on drops or endgame rewards, so not sure where you can get a good crafter for this.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_...l_weaponsmiths
Armor: you can get a max armor at consulate docks for 5 plat total, that's the earliest and cheapest max armor.|||Quote:

The two builds you dug out is from the old PvXwiki. Go to http://www.gwpvx.com/PvX_wiki for up to date builds. And by the way, the D/E build was designed for PvP.
Armor: max armor is totally worth it. You will be extremely squishy without it.
Weapon: Any max damage scythe will do, but I'd look into some green scythes like the green Draconic Scythe.
Alaris: You might want to take another look at Vow of Strength... Its only requirement is wielding a scythe :)
Hope you got something out of my post :)
