Nee some help! And hello

[:1]Hello,

I bought guild wars some days ago because i wanted to play this before i was going to guildwars 2.

My irl name is Vincent, and ingame my name is Plox Yy.

I made a necromanser and as second prof i choosed mesmer, i dont know if its good but i did it... And now when im lvl 16 (Nearly 17) Im thinking: Was this a good idea?

I dont have/use a good build, and im dieing alot in the missions that im doing now because im laking damage and stuff like that, it's really annoying. So i thought: Maybe i choosed the frong proffesions, i started at nightfalls btw.

I hope someone can help me with this and can help me with building my necro/mes.

Ploxy|||You will be able to change your secondary not much further in to the game.

Things to do:

Upgrade your armor.

In party size 8 eight areas, always take 2 monk heros or henchmen (henchmen may be better than your hero since you don't have many skills.) Which leads us to:

Unlock hero skills at the hero skill trainer in Kamadan.

Give your monk heroes almost nothing but 5 energy skills.

Do the quests. They will help level you and your heroes and they will get you experience playing your team before you get to the harder areas of the games.

Edit: I answered what I guessed were your problems, but to answer your question a little more specifically: Across you and your heroes stick to 2 or 3 attributes. Don't use four. So for example, on yourself, you could use 50% of your points in Death Magic and put the rest in Soul Reaping. On Koss, put 50% in to a weapon mastery (hammer for example) and put the rest in to Strength. If you split them too much, your team will lack focus and damage.|||Thanks for helping.

Its just, most of the time my team already killed it before i can do anything,.. im feeling like im useless, and i hate that. I hope necro/mes is getting stronger on lvl 20.

I really dont know where i have to spend my points on with necro/mess.. thats a big problem aswell i think.|||One thing may be missing in Fluffball's response: Don't use superiour and major runes. Aim for high health with vitae and a vigor rune and a staff or similar with a fortitude mod; that makes you less attractive as a target for the foes.

Level 16 on Istan sounds like you are doing things like the Drunken Shrauben, Assault on Beknur Harbor and the master difficulty quest in Cliffs of Dojok at the moment? If you die during master difficulty quests, there is not much shame in that. Some of them are quite hard for newcomers on their first character.

N/Me is not a bad choice, though it depends a bit what you're using the /Me for. Keep the 2-3 attribute lines rule in mind; and one of your attribute lines as a necro has to be Soul Reaping so that you never know about how troublesome energy management can be.

-----------

May I ask what you're using at the moment if you feel that you aren't contributing much in fights?|||I used like 10 in domination, and 11 in death magic. My skills were :

Deathly swam

Vile touch

Empathy

Wastrels Demise

Mistrust

Spiritual pain

Signet of lost souls

And the only quest that i have at the moment is:

And a hero shall lead them

Thx for the help anyway, and i hope i can get some more!|||Generally you want to pick you or your heroes' primary attribute as one of the lines to invest in. In your case, it's Soul Reaping. If you really love your domination magic, I'd suggest either playing a mesmer, or a 3 way split between those three attributes. Otherwise just go with Death and Soul Reaping. Death is an extremely solid attribute line.

Vile Touch is a little dicey because it puts you, a caster, in melee range. Generally you want to avoid that.

The quest you're on, you're getting in to the "real" part of Nightfall, where the monsters are tougher and the game assumes you know what you're doing. That's probably one of the reasons why you're having more trouble now. I'd make sure you have all the points in my initial post addressed.|||Oke i done 10 in death magic en 11 in soul reaping, but what skills do i have to use?

Thanks anyway, and yes this quest is really hard, shud i do this one or first do other small quests?|||You seem a little far in to the game for the level you are, (it's been a awfully long time since I started from scratch in NF though) so leveling up a little on quests won't do any harm.

Check the skill trainers any time you see one in a town and get anything that looks remotely useful and you can afford. Start with the hero skill trainers, because those use hero points rather than actual gold (you can learn necro skills through them, it doesn't have to be just for your heros.)

You probably have so few death and soul reaping skills just filling your bar with (non-touch range) skills should be pretty simple. One or two minion creation skills go a long way towards damage and protecting yourself.|||Hmm yes, this is what i got now:

Is it good?|||Well you don't want to take skills you have no attribute points in (the domination skills), they won't do any damage. The shambling horrors, or whatever those undead that you're going to be creating plus casting death nova on them will do some really impressive damage (you don't actually see the damage numbers from your minions but they still do it.) The other skills on your bar I think you'll figure out as you use them, seeing if they do good damage or provide any utility for your team.

Death magic is usually used to make a "minion master" (someone who makes and maintains minions, so Blood of the Master may be handy) or maybe in your case a "minion bomber" (someone who creates minions and then has them explode for a lot of damage when they die in battle.) You don't have to do that if you don't like it, it's just what that attribute line sort of pushes you towards.
