[:1]Hey all, I haven't played GW in pretty much like 5 years - to the point where I had 5 birthday gifts on my 20 W/Mo and 5 gifts on my 20 A/Me. When my A/Me reached 20, I remember that my W/Mo had his first birthday and I sold his gift pretty quickly since it was a trading frenzy on that day, and I got quite a lot of money (around 60kg or something IIRC).
I am pretty sure my gifts are going to be worth a ****load since it's stuff coming all the way from 2006 to ... well, now. I just want to get a general estimate on how much these things are actually worth. If the price ranges vary so greatly from one possible item from a gift to another in the same yearly gifts, then I'll post a list so I can get some real numbers posted here.
I did talk a bit in a relatively slow general channel (oh, and people don't put up their WTS ads into trade chat? lame...) and asked if my stuff was worth anything. Someone told me yes because they are both collectors' stuff AND a bunch of GW2 players would actually buy them to use for their HoM or whatever.
The HoM is actually what got me back into GW2. I decided I'd mess around a bit and see if I could do anything about my HoM, hoping to get a small headstart in GW2. How are these 'miniature' items used for the HoM, and what bonuses can they bring?
Right after typing up the last paragraph, I decided to actually click on stuff at this link:
http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=m...AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I'm a bit confused... I must have been away from GW for too long (must be, since I don't remember crap about the game except for the Charr invasions or whatever in the Prophecies storyline, and the fact that you cant jump or swim! lol) but I really don't know what these statues are. Are they in fact the things I have, or...? I remember some of the icons said to double click to bring them out (like a companion pet in WoW), so.. just wondering about how the HoM works, and how I can advance through it.
Thanks in advance.
Also any general tweaks or game-changing mechanics (both PVE and PVP) ever since Factions would be cool to know.|||Well I'd hold on to the mini pets from the gifts if I were you, since they can be added to your hall of monuments.
To add stuff to your hom, you have to have the expansion. The hom is a small instance you can access from the 'eye of the north' outpost. So just add your mini pets/armor/etc to the hom that way and progress will start showing on your hom calculator. (it updates when you log off the game)
Also, for trading, the best outpost to sell things at is Kamadan, and for current prices you should check the gwestimator: http://argos-soft.net/GwEstimator/
Hope it helped.. =]|||I'm gussing you don't have the 3rd campaign, Nightfall, and the expansion, Eye of the North? EotN is where the Hall of Monuments is. It's pretty much the first thing you find, and you earn tapestries as you complete various storylines in that game.
If you need/want to get those games look for a bundle deal, they should be dirt cheap.
As far as major changes since Factions came out... uh...... you might as well just start playing as though this is an entirely new game.|||Quote:

Thanks for the info! Will be keeping these mini's to myself now.

I plan on buying Nightfall and perhaps Eye of the North, but there are some questions I'd like to ask first. I am playing this game with a friend, and we plan to just start playing Prophecies, then Factions, then Nightfall, and then we'd really get to work on the HoM after that.
We were wondering if we would 'miss' any progress on the HoM if we didn't buy EotN until we completed the Nightfall campaign. I noticed this comment in your post:

Do you mean 'that game' as in EotN in particular, as in we HAVE to finish stuff in that specific expansion to even progress at all in HoM, meaning that the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns are completely irrelevant to working on the HoM, and thus we could wait until buying the EotN expansion until after Nightfall is completed/beat by us? If not, I assume we should buy EotN right NOW before playing Prophecies so we get more 'achievements' or whatever to help advance the HoM.|||Quote:

You won't miss any progress if you play Nightfall first - you can't work on any EotN-specific titles in Nightfall, and vice versa. So you can play Nightfall or any other campaign first, and then just add whatever titles you've achieved in your Hall of Monuments when you buy the EotN expansion.
But you will need to have EotN to access your Hall of Monuments and to gain any advantage of your titles in GW2. Another good thing about buying EotN is that you get some pretty useful skills and more heroes, but you won't need those to beat the other campaigns obviously.

You'll need to play some quests in EotN to get tapestries that are used to "unlock" the 5 monuments. For example you'll have to use a tapestry to unlock the Monument of Devotion before you can add your mini-pets in your HoM. So, you can work on your Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall titles and play these campaigns first, and then just add those titles in your HoM later.|||He want eotn in particular. Buying EoTN last should not hinder you in any way, after all that's the order in which they were released (proph -> factions -> nf -> eotn)
Once you guy eotn and step into your hall, you'll be able to add all the titles (and armor, and minis) for the campaigns.
So in short... no, you don't really need to buy eotn until you want it, you'll be able to add everything retroactively. As another piece of advice, I'd buy eotn or nf right now but for a different reason. They provide heroes, which are npcs that you customize. It makes the other two games easier to go through =)
edit: ninja'd! Also, the hom/tapestries/monuments/statues/etc will make more sense once you step into your hall.|||To add to everybody's take:
You can't access the HoM without EotN and you will need to play through the whole EotN storyline to unlock the monuments inside the HoM.
However, if you look at the "Honor" (or Titles) monument, you'll notice that titles earned through playing Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall do count towards your HoM. To accumulate points towards the HoM, you'll need to "register" accomplishments (titles) or items (minipets, armor, hero armor, elite weapons, etc.) in the HoM.
To go back to your original post, minipets are strictly vanity items. They do not "do" anything while playing. However, they can be dedicated (or added or registered, it's all the same thing) in the HoM for points (and more points means more items in GW2). They can only be dedicated once (and thus lose quite a bit of value once dedicated since the other person cannot dedicate them for their own HoM).|||Quote:

While I do have a good amount of minipets, I remember getting some kind of a potion out of one of my birthday gifts. It had endless uses and made me into some kind of a black woman with somewhat revealing clothes. Can that be used towards getting points in the HoM or no?|||Ah... you've got yourself a 6 years old character in there. :)
What you've received is a 6th-birthday everlasting tonic (no minipets for toons aged 6 or more). It has a lot of value (since those have been introduced this year) and does not count for the HoM. Perfect if you want to replenish your finances.|||Quote:

Yeah, my W/Mo is 6 years old, my A/Me is 5.
So how much do these things go for?
