What do we know about the Hall Of Monuments connection to GW 2?

Yes, I realize that Arena Net said they would reveal more on this closer to the release. Nonetheless I wanted to ask what exactly we do currently know on this issue? Personally I view the whole thing with some trepidation because it smacks of what happened with parts of Nightfall and the whole principle of EotN because it rewards/encourages grind and rewards those that do enough of it. Honestly I hope the boon or benefit received in Guild Wars 2 is marginal and hopefully just some visual bonus like the glowing hands for the CE. Truthfully going back to Guild Wars 1 to grind the stupid titles like Drunkard or LDoA for some bonus in the sequel seems redundant and counter-intuitive. In recent times Guild Wars PvE has started to reflect WoW more and more than it ever did, which is not necessarily a bad thing however I do not wish to see this connected to GW 2 in any way.|||What do we know about the HoM connection?

Nothing.|||Trawling the wiki I stumbled across this:

"Then, when Guild Wars 2 arrives, each of these monuments will correspond to special features your Guild Wars 2 characters can "inherit" from your own legendary past, giving you access to exclusive titles, companions , weapons, attire, and miniatures. These inherited items are unique: there is no other way within Guild Wars 2 to acquire them."

and this:

"The rewards are known to include titles, weapons, attire and miniatures. These rewards are unique - there is no other way to get them. For this reason, their appeal will be mainly cosmetic; they will not give the player any huge advantages over other players. It is unknown whether the number of items or achievements stored into each monument in Guild Wars will affect the nature of the rewards received."|||The wikis are written by random people that have no connection what-so-ever to Anet. In the case of GW1, the info is usually pretty accurate because million of people know what the correct info should be and will monitor that it stays correct. In the case of the GW2 wiki, it's nearly pointless at this stage.

By the way, I loved the process of getting my GWAMM. If you don't like getting vanqing and doing HM missions and exploring the game, then don't do it. Knowing Anet, there will be no statistical bonus from the HoM. The popular guess right now is you'll get a special weapon skin.|||Quote:

The random people writing the wiki sometimes quote interviews with ANet personnel, you know. They don't make everything up out of whole cloth. The first paragraph Xunlai quoted was a direct quote from a GW2 developer. Obviously, it was from early in the development stage, before the companion system was dropped. Nevertheless, I think this quote and others have firmly established that the HoM rewards in GW2 will be cosmetic in nature.

We also know a couple of other things for a fact. First, only one GW1 account can be linked to a GW2 account. (Though it has not been said whether more than one GW2 account can be linked to the same GW1 account.) Second, whatever rewards there will be are going to be account-wide in GW2, and will be based on the account-wide view of the HoM in GW1. Third, GW2 characters will gain access to their predecessor's HoM via some object found in the game.

It's thin information, but it isn't zero information and it wasn't made up by random people who don't know what they're talking about.|||Quote:

Via scrying pool, yay*! I'm just speculating...

Or maybe just by walking over there? Surely a fort of the Ebon Vanguard can withstand the erosion of 300 years. Buildings IRL can, so why not a possibly magically enchanced tower couldn't?|||Well, I think the frozen dragon that drives the Norn out of the north will probably have something to say about that.

If the transferal object is the scrying pool, it'd be awesome if you could see a glimpse of a GW2'd version of one of your GW1 characters, even though that's stupidly trivial and not necessary.|||I've always been morally convinced that there is a tunnel behind the Monument of Honor leading into the mountain. I see perspective there rather than a flat wall behind the emergent statue. Perhaps it offers a way in through the depths of Tyria that evades the surveillance of Jormag and his minions.|||Quote:

stuff

Sure, but the GW2 wiki is still written by people who aren't Anet employees, who may or may not be making things up, or may think info it true/current and be totally mistaken. There are basically zero people who are able to fact check it.

If you're looking for official info on GW2, go to GW2 and follow their blog and new links. GW2 wiki is not a good resource yet.
