Hey again, me and my buddy bought GW trilogy from steam 2day and it didn't contain Eye of the North or something like that, so if we bought it not on the steam but a serial from an other person will it work? And where we need to enter that serial? |||I'd recommend not buying a code from someone, you have no way of knowing if it's been used or not. You can buy EotN from a store and add the code to the account, there's a link in the login/char selection screen for that (account management). Or if you don't mind paying a couple dollars more, you can just buy it from the in-game store (accessible form char selection), and it will be added to your account automatically, without you having to add the key at all.|||If you buy it from a reputable seller on ebay or amazon's marketplace, you'll probably be fine. Just don't try to get it from someone in game.
If the key has already been used then it will tell you when you enter it. You will want them to send you the actual physical printed code though, as Anet will want this if you have account problems in the future.
Once you are at the character selection screen, at the bottom will be a button or link saying Edit Account. Just click that and the rest is pretty self explanatory. You want to apply the code to an existing account if it asks. If it says you have an invalid code (as opposed to one that has already been used) then be sure to check that you have entered it correctly. A few of the characters are easily miisread.
Welcome to the game and hope you guys have fun/|||thanks, everything is working now

heya a lil more questions
Hey, so we are in the game, everything is working. Now we started with Prophecies and when you get the profession quest you kinda spit with your mate, am I right? We went to different locations to do our Main and off profession quests, and there we noticed some other quest, but we didn't take them because we want to play 2gether and we thought that we will stick to the main quest... So we did. And we ware level 2 at that time and we started the main quest event and we ware taken to the mission on our owns not in the party, we ware pissed. We did it on our own and the lands changed we ware level 2, missed a lot of quests, mobs ware tough to kill and the game seems pretty messed up right now, we think that we will remake the chars and do you guys can give any tips? and should we take the non main quests? and with what weapon should i level up a warrior? I started with a hammer then picked up a sword shield and my damage sucked : D so yea i made a pretty stupid, dumb and long post, hope someone will reply, thanks.|||The pretty place you started out in, with the grass and the tress and stuff, is called pre-searing. It's merely a tutorial area and nothing you missed there was of any importance. Unless you just liked to play in that scenery, there's no reason to remake your characters - and you will have to leave the place eventually, anyway, to advance the storyline.
You are now in post-searing. The areas here are made for parties consisting of 4 players. That means that you will have to add henchmen to fill up your party. From hereon you can play the entire game together.
You complete main quest to advance in the story and through areas, and all other quests are completely optional. It may be a good idea to do the ones in proph as a lot of them give you skills for free.
Hammers are pretty meh in early proph. You'll probably do best with a sword in the early areas because the skills you get for sword are more useful. Also make sure that you meet the requirement of your weapon, otherwise your damage will drop significantly.|||Quote:

Yes, I would make new characters and stay longer in pre-searing (the nice time before the mission.) Run around in presearing for a while, do those silly side quests, find the other skill trainers (there are a lot of them), learn these skills, and when you're level 5-8, then go and do that mission.
As a warrior, you can learn the following skills in presearing:
Frenzy
Healing Signet
Sever Artery
Gash
Cyclone Axe
Executioner's Strike
Hammer Bash
Other professions have a similar amount of available skills. I wouldn't leave presearing until I had learned the lot of these, at the very least.
As for the pathetic damage output of your weapon... welcome to the world of GW PvE. However, keep in mind that your sword is probably of the 1-3 damage variety, ideal for cutting up Aloe Seeds in presearing but not for much outside of that. It gets better later on, until the monsters start to be lvl 30 and to be clad in massive amounts of armor.|||thank you guys, Lytha and what are the ranger skills that you can learn pre-searing? |||Charm Animal

Is our choice good, that we picked prophecies? I heard that people recommend to begin from nightfall?|||Prophecies is the first one, so if you want to get absolutely the most out of the story, you should start there. But it also progresses very slowly.
Factions progresses very quick, and can be a bit quick for a new player.
Nightfall is usually recommended because it's nicely in the middle. It's not horribly slow, but it still has enough time to learn most of the stuff. And Nightfall introduces you to heroes. Otherwise you'd have to wait until you get to a port town to go to EotN (Kamadan/Lions Arch/Kaineng Center). Heroes are like henchmen, but you can pick their skills and equipment, and also control their actions a bit (set a location for them to stay at, and pick between aggressive/defensive/avoid combat and lock a specific target). Heroes are very useful to have, as they practically always perform better than normal henchmen.
Also, you can edit your post, there's a nice red button with edges that have just been rounded, so no sharp corners or anything.|||Here is the list of all skills that you can learn in presearing:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_...Searing_skills
I wouldn't start in Factions as a new player, because you're getting thrown nasty foes into your face very early on (on the very first map already, to be precise - lvl 12 necromancer critter against lvl 2 characters? What madness is this?).
But both Nightfall and Prophecies are fine. Personally, I'd start in Prophecies, too, because that's the first. Nightfall has some spoilers about the first two games.|||I started out in Prophecies. The learning curve is nice and gentle but you still feel like you're doing something. Factions is a mad bumrush, and Nightfall can be a little irritating with its Sunspear Rank quests. I'd pick Prophecies because there's a ton more quests that reward skills, which saves you money on buying said skills.

Confused About What to Do
I am playing Factions and purchased the pet pack add on. My character is a level 14 Ritualist/Monk. If I am understanding correctly, I need to use the ranger charm skill in the Zaishen Menagerie to get my pet. The problem I have is how to get the ranger charm skill. How do I get the charm skill at this point and from who? Is there another way to get this character a pet that i am not aware of? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.|||It's a ranger skill. You must be a ranger (in your case, secondary or Ritualist/Ranger.) After you complete I think its the 4th mission, there will be an NPC called "Profession Changer" that will let you change your secondary profession at will.|||For starters, to have a pet you need to be either primary or secondary ranger. Since your character already seems to have secondary profession, you won't be able to change your secondary via the secondary profession quests on the starter island.
However, you will be able to change your secondary to any core profession and the professions specific to the chapters you have access to on your account, once you "ascend." The ascention in Factions is also called Weh No Su, and is achieved by beating the Nahpui Quarter mission on mainland Cantha (it's the second mission in mainland Cantha and 4th in all of Factions). Once you beat the mission, you will be able to change your secondary profession through Senji in Senji's Corner (which conveniently is the outpost you spawn in when you beat Nahpui Quarter) or Profession Changer in Great Temple of Balthasar (GToB).
Also, while you are able to reach the Profession Changer in GToB once you reach Kaineng Center and before beating Nahpui Quarter, he won't change your secondary until you are ascended.

Eotn rep qstn
Hey so I plan on working on the 4 eotn rep titles. What is the fastest way to max them out?|||Book farming|||Quote:
Book farming
What do you mean by this? Do i fill the entire book or only minimum which is more efficient?|||Translation: Fill out entire hero books and turn them in for max rep - watch your total reputation points, once you hit rank 8 exactly, you won't get more rep from hero books, but if you turn in a full book while you're still a few points from rank 8, you will get the full amount from the book.
Anyway, once you hit rank 8, repeat, but in hard mode.
Or do what I did, spice it up with a bit of vanquishing to avoid going raving mad from repeating the same missions over and over.|||There is also speedbooking.
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Build:A/any_GW:EN_Speedbooker
Basically abusing a few main quests to repeatedly get your books to a minimum amount filled and turn them in.|||It depends on the title:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide...ldrimor_points suggests Snowmen lair.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide...utation_points suggests raptor farming
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide...utation_points suggests the quest Path to Revelations (not repeatable, so make sure you don't accept the reward)
And there's no good way to farm Ebon aside from books.
Of course, I prefer books because it's more fun... but I also do MotN first, so that there's not much left to do in terms of farming after.|||Actually Ebon was the one title I maxed without using books. Repeated vanquishing of Sacnoth Valley, saving the charr bosses for last just seemed a lot faster.
But maybe that was just because I was sick of filling out books at the time.|||You vanquished repeatedly Sacnoth? |||I have to admit, it worked for me. The sacnoth valley vanquish.
Mainly I took the siege devourer and took point, while heros and hench backed me up.
I got major lucky at and the boss bounty kicked in JUST as I was coming up the hill to where the 3 charr bosses were. Just from those 3 bosses alone I got near 1k rep points. I went from level 3 to level 5 in one go.|||Yeah, you can rack up thousands of points in one go if you get lucky with the bounties. I got over 9000 points in one vanquish (note, this was BEFORE you got additional bonus rep points for vanquishing an area...) due to being at 4x hunt bonus, rampage and hitting the charr bosses after about 250 kills.
Haven't tried it lately but I believe it's still quite worthwile. That was on my necro - haven't really wanted to max vanguard rep on any of my other characters.
Though maybe I should do so on the assassin for an extra second of blindness from Sneak Attack (she's at Rank 8 at the moment, so technically I only need to get to rank 9 for that extra second I guess.)
[edit]
Couldn't sleep so I decided to see if it was still worthwile to vanquish Sacnoth. Got 11400 rep points in one go with my assassin. That includes the 2240 bonus points for vanquishing the area. Was at hunt rank 3 when I finished and blew a couple of boss bonuses and a time attack, so I could have got more if luck had been with me.
Takes roughly an hour and a half to vanquish the valley (well, less if you remember to bring a daze skill for Blisterbark. And if you remember to turn on the vanguard title when fighting the charr.) - so it's a decent way to get vanguard points if you are bored with the books.
Yeah, I sort of forgot to plan for Borrguus Blisterbark though so it could have been faster if I hadn't spent so much time on burning to a crisp and being resurrected. Or if I had remembered to bring a morale boosting consumable or two...

Cant get Quest to Trigger
Hi,
I am playing GW Factions. I just completed the quest "A formal Introduction" and after I successfully completed the mission, I got a cut scene that went into the next quest Minister Cho's estate. The problem is after the cut scene I was dropped off in the Minister Cho's commons area with no one to trigger a quest. Master Togo is in Shing Jea Monestary but is no where to be found in Minister Cho's estate. I dont have any quests to do and no one to talk to to give me any more quests. I have been wandering around for about 3 hours now and have a few areas blocked by red gates. There is no one to talk to by any of these closed red gates. I am at level 8 almost to level 9. Am I missing something here? Is this a glitch? My understanding is that I should have been able to talk to Master Togo somewhere in Minister Cho's estate to trigger the next mission. When I talk to him in Shing Jea Monestary he says nothing about the quest. Please help.|||Did you click on that Start Mission button just below your party list? Once you can enter Minister Cho's estate, there is no need to talk to anyone. In GW, there is a difference between missions and quests: quests need an NPC to trigger, missions in Factions can be done once you are allowed into the area.|||On your party menu, there should be an 'Enter Mission' button. Click that to begin the mission. This is the same for all Prophecies and Factions missions.|||You hand the quest in to a guard who is close to the gate that you enter through in the cut-scene. After that, form a group and click "Enter Mission" and you'll be on your way :)|||"Takes foot out of bum"

A couple quick questions..
I used to play awhile back, and with GW2 coming, I was thinking about getting back into the game.
I'm trying to get my old account back. I forgot the username and pw. I'm waiting on the customer support to email me back, so I figured I'd ask a few questions here in the mean time.
I had some items from the original gw on my account. Did GW change too much so now these items are useless, or would some of them still be worth something (or more?)
http://guildwars.incgamers.com/showthread.php?t=365579
That's the old price list I requested awhile back. I'm sure I still have the same items on my guy. Also, not that it means much, but I want to say thanks to Keydet for the price check. I just realized I never thanked him -- four years ago. ;/
anyway thanks!|||Quote:

Yes. They have added a system called inscriptions rendering your items useless.

GW has changed quite a bit, and while I wouldn't go so far as to call all those items "useless" (they still work just as well as they did before...) they're certainly not worth any considerable amount. They weren't worth very much to begin with (judging by the PC) but you'd have trouble selling most of them at all, now.|||This thread really should be in the PC forum, not here.
You can sell unid golds ~500g each to someone who's going for that title (I usually pick up unid golds 7 for 4k or less).
You might be able to salvage some of the mods off those things, but for the most part, its all merchant.

If something is for sale and has like 30e is that ectoplasm?|||Yes. That is correct.|||How much is each ectoplasm, still 15k from when I played?|||It's currently 6.5K to buy at the trader.|||Quote:

hahahahaha. Oh, how I wish. As someone else said, probably about 6.5k and people complain *that* is high. They dropped below 5k for quite a while.|||Check the rare mats trader. Usual going price is about 500g less then what the trader sells it for. Trader usually buys them for 1k less then that.
Check this price if you intend to buy from people, as they will offer to sell something like 15-17 ectos for 100k. Use calculator to figure out if that's a good deal, and if you have wiggle room to get them to add one more in.
(15 ectos for 100k means you're buying them for 6666.66g each
17 ectos for 100k means you're buying them for 5882g each.)
Something to note, when people are selling stuff, try and get an idea of it's general worth, as these people tend to not negotiate very much on ecto amounts, even when the ecto price surges. If ecto price has gone up a bit much, you can use that as a leverage tactic, but as I said, sometimes they're not willing to. At least right away.
I have told people an item is worth only xxx amount in cash, and the ecto price they're asking for is to mucn now. Depending on how bad they want to get rid of it, they'll either tell you to sod off (nice way of putting it) or consider what you're saying, and they sometimes get back to you, and accept the price you mentioned.
Some people can actually work the market in ectos by buying low, selling high.
But that's a game in and of itself, and only those with the patience to stand around and do nothing but sell can accomplish something like that. The rest of us want to either dump stuff, buy the stuff we're looking for, and then move on.|||Quote:

If I remember correctly they went from 15k right down to 3.5/4k then back up to around 10? :)
Lots of buying at 4k and selling at 10k :P|||Quote:

OFT 12characters.|||Yeah, I know. I probably shoulda just said that and moved on. But sometimes, while most of us may not want to PLAY the market, it doesn't hurt to KNOW the market, and if you see a bargain, to be able to grab it.
Basicly, if you see someone selling ectos for something better then 17 for 100k, it's worth picking up.
PROBLEM though, with all the accounts getting stripped... I'm worried I'm buying from an account stripper if I get to good a deal.

Farming?
I'm really sorry if this has already been posted. I did a search for it and didn't get what I needed. I've been seeing a lot of people talking about 'farming'. What exactly is farming?|||Killing some boss or group of enemies over and over and over to get a specific reward, like an item the enemies drop. The analogy should be apparent now.|||Oh ok I get it now. Thank you!|||An example might be just going out with whatever chara you have, finding specific monsters that drop an item you want, say iron or cloth, or perhaps the trophy item that nick wants, killing all those of that type in a zone, leaving the zone and coming back again.
Or killing a larger group of random mobs in a short period of time (raptor farming).
Or killing all the mobs in a given area in hardmode to get the points rewarded for killing all of said mobs in said area. (vanquishing) It's still farming of a sort.
Whatever item that people want, or is in demand, other people will come up with ways to get that item, and then find ways of doing it fast and efficently, and then doing it over and over again so they can get said items, get people to pay for them, and reap the rewards.
THAT... is farming.
(bugger, shoulda refreshed this before posting)|||Anyone can go farming. The fewer people you have in your party, the better you'll do, and some things are better farmed in Hard Mode. So, solo farming in HM tends to be what people talk about, but this often requires specific skill sets for specific locations. You'll run into much discussion of what skills work where.
Last week, Nicholas was looking for frosted griffin wings, which drop from the griffins north of Camp Rankor. I didn't have a character I thought capable of solo farming, so I went out with my Dervish and three Heroes. By the time we'd killed every griffin we found, we'd gotten no wings, so I went back with my Elementalist. He has a solo farming skill set that was barely adequate. Note that for farming "trophy" items like these, Hard Mode doesn't help.
I came back with my Mesmer, who can double as a Ritualist "spirit spammer." This worked better but was still fragile. A friend in our Alliance sent me a different spirit spam skill set, which I put on my Monk as the Mesmer couldn't reach the place to capture the elite skill. That set-up worked much better, and he made two runs and obtained 11 wings.
So... farming can be interesting. For me, it's too much like work so if something takes more than a couple of runs to get, I'll pass. Or if I can combine farming with something else, such as chest opening (feels like an ongoing birthday party) I do better. Music helps too.

Tactic explanation?
Been doing some sway HA (kinda new there) and people usually say "go 12>3<4 or something like that and "go 6"..been trying to ask what they mean by that but asking that shows your a noob which equals kick in most parties, so im wondering if anyone here could explain what that number system means?|||Only in the initial fight against the zaishen, right? I haven't HA'ed in ages but I seem to recall that a lot of PUGs do this there. If that's the case, then the numbers indicate party members and the 3 positions are the left monk, the ele, and the right monk respectively.
So:
1>2<3 would mean that party member #1 (in sway the first R/A) hits the left monk and so on.
Sway teams will probably want a R/A on each of those three targets and the trappers positioned between the monks and the ele, I'd assume. That would make it 14>2<53.
#6 is an expel rit in sway, isn't it? In that case, "go 6" would probably be a way to tell the rit to start putting weapons on the R/A's.
^All of this is just educated guessing.|||Yes.
If the partymembers aren't right the theory is.
It's just extremely shortened messages about which number partymember goes on what target.
The chevrons show what side obviously like explained and in the middle is the ele which has the most annoying spells that can **** up zaishen times.
If you're told to "go 7" or something it means they want you to hit the opposing party's number 7.
Or if you're told to go on your own number, or reverse or whatever fits nowadays you simply calculate which number should be yours.|||Quote:

Right. I was still thinking zaishen fight when I wrote the last bit ;)|||Ah i get it now.
Just wondering how to calculate which numbers belong to which enemy? If im told to go 7, should i just assume they want me to go on the prot monk or how do u calculate it?|||The number is listen next to each player's name.|||By calculate I mean, if 1 goes on the corresponding monk, you have 1 go on 7 and 2 go on 8 if they have 2 monks.
Calculate in that way.

Why are most quest rewards awful
okay so i thought about it and like 3/4 of the quest in this game have crappy rewards. Especially the tyria ones that don't give skills. Most quest give mostly experience points and a really low amount of gold. The only quest I found useful are ones where it spawns a lot of mobs so you can farm them or gives skill rewards. Or the ones where you are heading through to get to the next mission location and they are on the way. So why are most quest rewards soooo awful?|||Because the reward is less about the "bling" and more about the "fun"?
Oh wait, most MMO players care more about the former then about the later.
Oh yeah, it also helps with survivor characters, skill-hunters and consumable-crafters. But who cares about that, right?|||Quote:

Believe it or not I do read quest logs.|||What more do you want? Epic swords, overpowered armors?
The level cap is 20, so after a while the exp reward is really useless unless for the situations I mentioned. Free gold is always free, but since there are quicker ways to get it it's not time-efficient.
So the only thing left is the fun factor. People enjoy the lore in the quests, others do them because it's fun. Clearing the UW of its quests might not be profitable (each quest rewards 10k experience) but it's fun and people do it because of that.
You really can't give better rewards because they would either:
1 - Be too good and render the end-game content obsolote, reward-wise.
2 - Be too little and do them for the fun only (current situation).
Long story short, do the quests if you like and have fun doing them. Do something else if you want to do something more rewarding.|||Quote:

What is this free gold is always free farming with a sin/power trading? Sounds like fun...|||They're low because the cost of everything you can possibly need in the game is also extremely low.|||Quote:

This.
A max weapon costs 5k + mats. A full set of regular armor costs 7.5k + mats.
Considering the gold rewards from missions, they can't start giving out 2k and 3k for every quest. It's not Anet's fault that the players inflate the market by trading cosmetic items for 100k + xx ectos.|||I enjoy quests. I wish there were more of them, and I wish there'd be new ones periodically. I know some of them are frustrating, such as those in which I have to escort someone through hostile territory, but they're still enjoyable. Experience points are useful for getting skill points that are needed for things like consumable sets and perfect salvage kits.|||The tyrian ones were designed on the scale of the game at that point in time.
Getting max weapons right away with good mods was never something they anticipated way back when.
That being said, if you check the weapons offered, some of them have fairly good stats for their requirement. I like to keep a couple for newbie charas here and there.
(14-26 bow with only r6? That's fairly impressive to me)
But yes, 500g and 500 exp for some quests... kinda feels lacking.
Factions changed that with high exp and some good cash, as well as items you could turn in for things normally available from merchant. NF continued this, and also gave us hero skill points for buying skills.
Eye of north just combined them all.
Unfortunately, this is where proph is really starting to show it's age. The rewards aren't bad, but compared to other things nowadays, they're not good.
But the amount of time and effort involved in changing all that...
Basicly, don't expect it to happen any time soon. Like... in the next 2-3 years or so.|||Prophecies quest rewards did blow.
I think it was trying to be conventional in a game that didn't need to be.

How hard is it to get Cartographer Titles?
So, for some reason I woke up today with an itch to start a Gwamm character since I don't have one yet. Ive looked at the titles I needed and there was one group that kind of bothered me: Cartographer.
My questions are:
1. Is it easy to miss a tiny part of the map where you thought you've already mapped everything, and then when you think you're about to reach 100%, suddenly it shows up as 99.9% and have no idea where you need to find that .1%?
2. Has anyone experienced something similar to this?
3. What did you do in order to solve it? Did you have to do it all over again?
The reason why I'm asking this is because of a traumatic experience experience I had with FFX-2. After spending close to 60 hours on the game in order to get the perfect ending, I finished the game with an insulting 99.99%. Like the game was mocking me. I then had to rush through a second playthrough for the extra .01%. It was the first time in my life where I literally wanted to smash a console to pieces. I really wanna avoid a second incident like that, so help would be appreciated.|||If I had to do the cartography titles again, I'd be using Texmod and something like Cartography made easy, since I wasted too much time scraping walls the last time I did it.|||Just remember that to max the Cartographer title, you don't actually need to map 100% of the world, you can leave some places unmapped. For example I got to 99.8% in Cantha and was wondering where to get the remaining 0.2% from... then I realised that I had never been to Raisu Palace (explorable), and after cartographing the whole area I must have been well over the 100% mark.
Without any help (Texmod or something) it is quite hard to max the Cartographer titles, and it takes a lot of time and gets on your nerves sometimes... I would suggest downloading a complete map and then comparing it to yours, and see if you can find any tiny differences. I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to installing unofficial mods (e.g. Texmod), especially now that there have been reports of so many hacked accounts, so I wouldn't suggest those, but that's your decision.
Good luck! |||I have been working on these on and off with out any type of third party software and it does take some time, if you do them with the vanquisher title then you will know what areas you have hit, though fighting can be tougher.
Also as a side not you can't get the best ending if FFX-2 in one play through, it is impossible if I remember right since there is a minor new game plus built in that opens a new option or area on a second play through.|||I never found cartographer annoying, as I just explore every map properly when I'm in it for the first time: if an area is on my map, then it's cartographed completely (or obviously missing one half of it).
I never used texmod for it. :P
Given that you're now thinking about it as a random fancy, I guess you just waltzed through the maps without exploring them at all. This spells indeed trouble of some sorts. You'll have to revisit each of them again and hug the walls, and keep track of which area you've finished and which are still incomplete. If you do it systematically, ideally with a list of some sorts as a .txt file, then you won't run into the dreadful 99.9% issue.
Cantha especially can be brutal, because you can't access some tiny little spots in the Luxon/Kurzick outposts (only the controlling alliance can) and I guess because it may be hard to get a FA match nowadays. Also, you'll probably need the extra bit from the Shing Jea Monastery newbie area, which won't be accessable for another couple of months.
It isn't a hard title, if you're systematically doing it. It can be hard and annoying if you're doing it sloppily.|||Quote:

this. the old way takes so long to do since you never really know what you're missing. it is an epic achievement to do it that way tho or just painful as hell. depends on the person I suppose.|||Quote:

I remember comparing maps with someone who had 100%. Major pain in the ***, especially with getting the clouds correct..|||If you know at character creation you are getting the titles, it will be a piece of cake. Anywhere that character goes will be completely and thoroughly mapped and it will be fairly stress free. Be sure to scrape the towns as well, they add a ton to your percent!|||I agree with Fluffball. If you decide to get it when you create the character, you can do most of title while simply playing through the game regularly and that makes it feel less lke a chore. I would definitely run texmod, though. Otherwise it's a complete hell.|||Do yourself a favor and run texmod for cartography. What I personally recommend is to use Cartography Made Easy to get most and use the green map to get the last few %. CME is good for most part because you get to see what you are missing directly on your map, but it doesn't tell you the exact location of the missing spot which can be troublesome if you are trying to get a spot between two explorables and they don't pick up tiny lone spots in middle of explorables. On the other hand, you need to go through things like take screen shot and have them compared with green map, but they can show you the exact location of every missing spots, making them better for figuring out how to access the remaining few %.
You could do the green map comparison yourself, but I'm still available to do comparisons (the comparison thread is buried somewhere in CDF).

If I had to do the cartography titles again, I'd be using Texmod and something like Cartography made easy, since I wasted too much time scraping walls the last time I did it.
this. the old way takes so long to do since you never really know what you're missing. it is an epic achievement to do it that way tho or just painful as hell. depends on the person I suppose.|||Quote:

You could do the green map comparison yourself, but I'm still available to do comparisons (the comparison thread is buried somewhere in CDF).
chalice of corruption
I did the mission to get rid of the chalice of corruption where Brother Tosai leads you into the area and you have to fight all the afflicted. Well I went there and beat them all yet the mission star sign is still there and brother Tsai wont remove the curse. His words tell me that drinking the chalice will make me stronger and my only response is that I should be on my way. Why isnt something triggering here? Did I miss something?|||Not sure, but this is a note in the old wiki that might be relevant (assuming I've correctly guessed where you are in the quest chain):
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Masters_of_Corruption
One situation may arise where Brother Tosai reappears at the end of the quest, but the quest is still not complete. It is possible during the waves of mobs, some of the Afflicted associated with the quest experienced pathfinding issues to the final quest location. As a result, The party may have to explore the areas inside the tunnel as well as the bridge area opposite the tunnel's direction. These mobs will usually be found running towards the quest location.
Maybe try again?|||When in doubt, kill F'ing EEEEVVVEERRRYYYYTHING!!!

Gold Making Tips
Does anyone have any tips for making gold? IE: good places to farm?
I just came back after a six month vacation and I used to do pretty well farming Smite Crawlers until the dhuum patch came out that made that a good deal harder.
Not interested in feathers.
I'm looking for farming spots or any other ways to make gold.
Thanks, Kax.|||A/E farm bosses but i dont really play much :P idk if they nerfed it or not. im waitin for the best game to come out!!!!! dun dun nuh dun!!!!! star wars!!!!!!!! phhhfsssshhh. lolz fail star wars. might be good but the best game coming out is
GUILD WARS 2! guild wars: reborn :) love em. hate em :) want it now! i made money from A/E ing bosses that could be soloed in either hard mode or normal. wiki should have some builds. sliver armor is needed and shadow form. Good luck. i havnt tried dhuum yet :)|||There's a Casual Player's Guide to making money that you can find in the Useful Guides thread, stickied at the top of this forum.|||You write an awesumz guide and then you sell it to other players for a 5k/copy.. oh wait|||Hacking accounts seems pretty profitably lately. |||Raptors just outside Rata Sum are pretty good income during special events (like Wintersday). You can do that with an E/Me, or a W/N. I'm sure you can find some good builds on pvxwiki.
There are many ways to farm UW smites, I believe. I never did farm there, so I am not up to date, but afaik these farms are still quite possible.|||For me just playing the game has been enough, but there are ways for more concentrated money earning.
Farm the Nic item of the week and sell it. Lots of people have money and are too lazy to get their own items. Has the benefit of being a new place each week.
Farm event items (raptors is usually a good bet).
When a fast z-mission comes up do it on all your chars (a time for heroes, shiro, abaddon etc).
Team farming (combined with running if there are free spots) is afaik where the most money is at though. DoA, UW, FoW etc.|||You can't make gold, you have to farm it.
The best, easiest way is feather farm. Or raptors.

Clarification on expansions and which campaign
Hi all. I read through the which campaign guide and I still have some questions.
I played Guild Wars Prophecies around 4 years ago and unlocked every skill for prophecies for all the characters and unlocked most of the runes and stuff. I remembered that once I unlocked runes or skills, I can just make a PvP character at level 20 that is just as good as if I leveled the character myself. Since I completed this for all the character I feel like I have no point in playing Prophecies over again.
Now my question, since I focused mainly on PvP, which game out of Nightfall, GWEN or factions helps me unlock the most useful PvP skills.
Also, do all the PvP skills merge together? So lets say I unlock a skill in nightfall and I unlock a skill in faction. Can I use both skills on the same character or can I only do that if I make a new PvP character.
Since I haven't played the game for so long, would it also be more wise to just get back on by playing nightfall?
Also, do rune upgrades carry between campaigns and expansions?
One last question is, if I can move my level 20 character from one campaign to another, wouldn't that make the campaign incredibly easy?
Thanks.|||I've no idea which skills are trendy in PvP at the moment, but I can answer the PvE oriented questions.
Yes, a character can both have, for instance, Shield of Absorption (Nightfall skill) and Spirit Bond (Factions skill) on his skillbar. They all merge together, as you say. The only limitation for your skillbars that you'll encounter is that you are never allowed to have more than 3 PvE skills on your skillbar at all times.
I know that if I've taken just a few months of the game, then I need a short while to get back into the controls and reflexes. Jumping straight into PvP after several years of a break sounds to me like a good way to get a bad reputation for being a noob... which might be harmful for your socializing needs.
Yes, rune upgrades carry between the campaigns. It's just that Factions and Nightfall have some new rune upgrades and inscriptions that you have unlocked in Tyria. Inscriptions is an obvious one, since they're new with Nightfall. Assassin/Ritualist/Paragon/Dervish runes is another obvious one.
The other campaigns aren't like Tyria. You won't spend 75% of the game as a lowbie character (anything that isn't lvl 20 yet). Instead, you'll spend just a few hours as a lowbie character in Factions, and some evenings as a lowbie character in Nightfall - the rest of these campaigns is tailorcut for level 20 characters. Just because you're lvl 20 doesn't make those campaigns incredibly easy.|||should I just jump straight into eye of the north?|||I'm not into PvP so I can't really answer any PvP questions in depth, but from what I understand lacking campaigns can significantly hinder you in PvP as little efforts on individual level can affect the team.

should I just jump straight into eye of the north?
It's not that much that you're missing out aside from skill/profession availability, so if you don't mind some spoilers from Factions/Nightfall, go for it.|||Factions probably has the best PvP skills... depending on your favorite class I guess, but there really is no reason not to buy a package of all games. They're super cheap at this point. Buying one game is a comparable price to buying all.|||alright cool thanks.
i have a question.
if i delete a role playing character, would I lose all the unlocks I had on that character?
I thought for sure that I beat the whole game as a Necro/Mesmer (or I used my W/Mo to change my secondary to Necro just to unlock skills), but I checked today and it's like I never unlocked any Necro skills.|||Quote:

Note that there is a difference between unlocking and learning things. If you have a skill unlocked, all heroes and PVP characters can use them. For a PvE character to be able to use them, you have to specifically learn it on that same character. If you delete a pve character, you will keep all the skills you have learned/unlocked (learning the skill automatically unlocks it )on that character as unlocked, but to use them again on a different pve character you'd have to learn them again on that char. You could use them on that chars heros or on a different pvp-only char later though, since those only need the skill to be unlocked.

Hey, new here
Hey folks,
Long story short, this is my first real foray into online gaming, so I'm more than a touch out of my depth. Basically, I'm just wondering what the best way to find folk to run around with is. Henchmen seem to defeat the purpose of the whole online thing, and I haven't had any luck shouting in the spam-filled chat channels. The two guilds that I've had folks of run around with me haven't exactly sold me on the idea. One just ran off and killed everything, leaving me to tag along and make their guild look bigger, while the other spent most of the time trying to tell me that I had to build my character this exact way otherwise I'm doing it wrong.
I'd rather not play the game like that, thanks.
What should I be doing and where should I be going for a bit of a better experience? Is it as simple as just having a bit more luck with guild choice?
Thanks.|||Finding a good guild that's willing to help you out would definitely be a great thing. Although those types of guilds can be sometimes harder to find as most are trying to work on end game content.
GWO is the home of a few great guilds if you're interested
Whenever you are looking for a guild, tell them exactly what you are looking, and hopefully you'll find a great one in no time
Don't be afraid to ask questions, there's a lot of knowledgeable people out there, although you may have to ignore a few idiots on the way|||First of all, Welcome!

Finding a good guild is pretty much a matter of luck. Just ask the guild about their usual activities before joining them.
As for builds, its already been a common established fact that certain builds are superior to others since they have been both tested and proven to be so. Try to check the link I provided. Despite that, don't be afraid to modify those builds or even create your own, but it will be useful if you have a good understanding of why (or why not) a build works first. You can do that by trying out the builds there and modifying them to suit your style. Once you get the hang of that, then you can try out your own builds and see if you can make a better one than those listed there.
Dont be discouraged by the fact that people you are partied with are pushing builds on you. Most of them are just afraid of failing a mission/quest because you may not be using an optimal build, which will make you deadweight (warrior with lots of self heal and protection but no damage) in some situations and may even lead you to be harmful for the party in worst case scenarios (Low level ritualist casting same spirits as high level ritualist).
It will be also useful to avoid common newbie pitfalls in building a character. Use the wiki to see common stereotypes of newbie builds such as the mending warrior. Here's another hint, the warrior build on the box of Prophecies that uses Firestorm is not a good build.|||Quote:

It's going to be hard finding a full party of human players for most missions now, unless it happens to be the daily reward. I don't do a lot in game anymore, but don't mind tagging along for the odd mission here and there, time zones may be a conflict, but you can PM me and we might be able to work something out.
Good luck finding something (guild wise) that suits you.|||Welcome to GW. It can be tough to find right people to play with. About the builds, I'm a Elementalist Ranger, which I went with based on nothing more than aesthetics. I don't mind people giving me advice. Heck, I welcome it - I'm well aware I haven't a clue. I'd just rather it was done in a tad more friendlier manner, with less ranting and screaming.|||First of all, welcome.
I agree that the best suited guilds right now would be one of the forum guilds here. They're really nice mature people.
If you have any question or need a feedback on how to improve your skillbar, just come back here on question forums and you will get answers.
The basics of building a skillbar would be to choose about 3 attributes: 1 main usually from your primary profession and 2 supplementary. In case of an elementalist, you first want to pick one main elemental attribute (air, earth, fire, water) with energy storage to help you keep up damage output. Then pick the second attribute depending on what else you want to do.
For example, if you are going up against plant-like foes that deals physical damage, you may want to put your main attribute to fire damage to deal extra damage and bring something like blinding flash under air magic or blurry vision under water magic so they miss more with their attacks. Alternatively, you may want to pick up a blocking skill from warrior tactics attribute.
The main perk of having ranger secondary would be to have a pet. However, I personally don't recommend having a pet because it takes 2 slots and one full attribute line to be able to utilize pets well and when your pet dies your skills are disabled for a few seconds. Don't be discouraged by this, because your secondary profession isn't permanent and it's more than possible to have good builds based off of one profession.
The requirement for characters created in any campaign is to be "ascended." In Prophecies this will take place in Crystal Desert area, by beating your Doppenganger in Augury Rock mission (unlocked only after beating the three other missions in the desert area). Once ascended, you will be able to take up quests that enables you to change your secondary scattered around in different Crystal Desert outposts. In other campaings, you will need to beat Nahpui Quarter mission (Factions) or complete the quest Hunted! (Nightfall), and Profession Changers in Senji's Corner (Factions) and Command Post (Nightfall) will change your secondary for 500g one-time fee. Alternatively, you can travel to Battle Islands and talk to Profession Changer in Great Temple of Balthasar and pay him 500g to change your secondary, though I suggest doing the quests if you are Prophecies character because they're free of charge. Keep in mind that once you "unlock" the secondary profession (by completing the quests or paying 500g fee) you can switch to the profession at any outpost, anytime, free of charge.
For more about secondary (wiki links):
Profession Changer
Secondary Profession|||Actually, pets only take up 1 slot now. You need only Comfort Animal on your bar to have your pet with you.|||Serpent's Quickness might be a perk of the /R secondary, too... wouldn't it?|||For the record, I'm playing the first campaign, the one where you start in the beautiful green countryside and then end up in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. It's fun so far.
And, really, I'm not that fussed about creating an optimal character at this point... Though, a minor readjustment might not go amiss. At the moment I have some godawful, horrible mishmash of fire magic (because I don't seem to have enough skills of any other element), marksmanship and a pet. At least dying seems no more than a minor inconvenience in any case, though I could be missing something. Stupid Healer henchwoman running into a group of Charr...
On the plus side, I am enjoying myself. I've been playing around with the snowball fights and some other fun stuff (Wow! Selling Candy Cane Shards is profitable!), and the game as a whole is definitely a keeper.

Planning a X-mas gift.. please help!
Hi everyone!
I've never played Guild Wars, in fact I havent' played any videogames in quite a while so please forgive me for all my silly questions. So I wanted to buy my uncle and my brother videogames for their x-mas presents. I bought Guild Wars Game of The Year Edition but now I found someone who might give me Guild Wars Warrior (or atleast I believe that's the name... it's got a picture of a warrior on the front) for $5, and I thought that if these two games were kind of different that I could give each of them one =] but my problem is that I don't know if they are indeed any different, is the warrior one just an extention? Would they be able to play both games together? Also, if you install the game on one computer, is it possible for another person to use the same CD to play it from another computer?
I was told that to play with other player there is no monthly fee or anything and that both also can be played as just 1 player in a story line mode, is this true?
I'd really appreciate any help!
I normally come to them two for advice on videogames but I don't want to ruin the surprise...
Thank you! =]|||There are three stand-alone chapters: Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. There's one expansion that requires one of the three chapters above: Eye of the North. For a very detailed post on what's contained in each, you may want to take a look at this thread, specifically post #3 that shows the detailed information for each chapter.
But different editions are named differently. For example, the Game of the Year edition that you purchased is Prophecies, but it also has a few bonus weapons available. There are also things like the Platinum edition, which has Prophecies and Eye of the North bundled together. Or the Guild Wars Factions: Platinum Edition, which is Prophecies, Factions, and Eye of the North all bundled together. There are a few more options as well, but it's just some combination of Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North, and maybe some bonus goodies.
As far as I know, there's nothing called just "Warrior." But many of the game boxes for Prophecies just say "Guild Wars" and may have one of four characters on the front. So if you can get a copy of that for $5, it's a decent deal.
Side note, transferring accounts from one player to another is against the EULA, and it's possible that someone could reclaim a "used" account, by claiming that it was stolen and providing the CD Keys as proof to ArenaNet. So the best bet is to always buy a new game, not used.
The game can be installed on multiple computers, but a CD key creates a unique account (or adds to an existing account). The account can only be online from one computer at once -- so if your uncle and brother want to play together, you'll need to get two separate accounts.
But with the age of the game, it's not to hard to find inexpensive copies of the game -- Amazon, for example, had a $5 per copy deal going for a while. I'm not sure what the current prices are, though.
You're correct, there are no monthly fees for the game at all. There are things to spend money on if you wish through the in game store, but nothing required.
If this doesn't answer your questions, or you have additional ones, please don't hesitate to ask. Lots of people on the forum are very helpful to new players.|||Thank you =]
Now I just have to find out what it is that the other game includes (the warrior one). This is what it looks like http://eu.guildwars.com/images/uploa...e-standard.jpg (the one to the right) but I always see it being sold along with the one to the left, so it seems strange that the warrior one is being sold all by itself. |||Both of those are just Prophecies. But they're all identical games on the inside, just the basic copy of Prophecies.|||That is two different covers for the Prophecies box (or maybe one side of the box has the warrior, the other has the necromancer girl Eve.) The Noob in the room
Hey all.
I've never played this game before. Heard about it from a friend of mine and thought that it would be really interesting to check out. So, I asked my wife for it for Christmas. More than likely I'll be getting it. But I have a few questions and was hoping that with the vast knowledge amungst those who are already immersed deep with in the storyline and game play, you would be nice enough to help me out.
I was told that GW is not an MMO like WoW. Is that true? As a starter which char is the easiest to build, run with, to help me get to know the game so I can work on expanding my knowledge of other characters?
I thank you in advance for your answers. Hopefully I'll get as interested in this game as I hope I will.|||A few links that might help.
First a wiki. Be careful where you go if you don't want spoilers.
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Getting started Guides:
If you get prophecies only.
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gett...d_(Prophecies)
If you get factions only.
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gett...ted_(Factions)
If you get Nightfall only or the three pack.
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Getting_started_(Nightfall)
In general I recommend starting out with nightfall first, as you get access to heroes immediately, and the learning curve and leveling (level 20 is max for the game) is not too slow or two fast.
Warriors, Elementalists, and Rangers are probably the easiest to get the basics on for new players in my opinion, and are available to start with on any of the campaigns.|||Necromancers are pretty easy as well and good for starters.
I'd only stay away from mesmers, monks, assassins as a complete newbie.|||Start with Prophecies! That;s where a lot of us started from. And you will get a great understanding of the history and storyline.|||Oh yes, and instruct your wife to get an "all 3 campaigns in 1 box" release. A box like that shouldn't be more expensive these days than a single campaign release.
Looking at my own experience with the game and looking at the gender ratio at this forum here, your wife might actually enjoy the game as well, by the way. If you've got 2 computers in your household then maybe you'd like 2 accounts so that you can play together.
But of course, feel free to test it before you try to get your wife addicted. ;)|||Thanks for the advice everyone. I know that she was probably going to get Nightfall and one other one. Wish I could remember what it was.
Unfortunately, we only have the one comp. I tried to get her into D2, but it didn't take. She only gamed for maybe a month. I actually had more luck getting her into Mafia Wars on Facebook. Pretty sad actually.|||If you get only NF and one other (probably EotN, because it might be bundled with NF - but could be Factions of Prophecies), start creating a character in this order:
Prophecies - Nightfall - Factions - (EotN)
Prophecies has a starting area we call "Pre-Searing": Stay there until you have done all the quests (& try all "secondary professions" before you chose) I think it is fine if you leave in Lvl 7.
In Nightfall all initial adventure happens on the island of Istan. There is a lot to do there, so you probably won't have to leave until you are Lvl 15 if you do available quests.|||Sad to hear that you missed the $15 sale of Trilogy (unless you're wife is going to surprise you) that Best Buy had a while back. Something to know though is that Eye of the North is selling for $8 now on amazon.com (finally going to be able to complete my 2nd account now).|||Quote:
I was told that GW is not an MMO like WoW. Is that true?
As much as any two games are not the same.
There are important differences, for example, GW has a lot of instancing, and does not rely on levelling or gear grind to determine character strength. As most WoW players I talked to say the best parts of WoW are instanced areas that you get into after you levelled to max level and have good gear... I think the point is moot. In fact, I'd argue that GW removed the boring parts of WoW. But different people are of different opinions.
Another difference is the lack of subscription fees, which means that GW has few in-game moderators (you rarely or never see them), and fewer updates. Instead, you get additional content by buying the other expansions / chapters. The nice thing is that if you're happy playing what you have, it's free to continue playing.

Mesmers and assassins are to be avoided in my opinion. Mesmers require a good knowledge of the game to play well, so they are great for those who want to learn. However, the learning curve is steep. Assassins are difficult to use well because of their hit & run gameplay. They can be frustrating to get into because they are at high risk of getting killed.
All other professions are good and relatively easy to get into. I would seriously advise to go with whatever sounds good, whatever fits your personality. And if you end up not liking it, it's easy enough to start a new character.|||Oh I forot to mention, you are by no means a noob. I prefer the term newbie if you haven't played here before. Hope you enjoy our game. :)

[CaSH] in Kamadan
If you hang out in Dist one you are familiar with the crew of identical Eles that are always next to the Sun Dock portal. My question is how do they have what appears to be the aura caused by "illness". I've never seen this in a town any where.|||Quote:

Chalice of Corruption. If you accept the quest to drink of the chalice, but don't go do the quest at that time, and go back to town...you'll look diseased in town.|||Thanks! I remember that quest. Yes, I've done the quests at the Sunspear great hall, And I have the sunspear armor from the docks.
And yeah, I'm bringing heroes and henchmen|||And if all else fails, try teaming up with other people.
However, you shouldn't be doing the quests from Champion's Dawn before you hit level 9 or ten if it's your first time.
There are some level 10+ mobs in Cliff's of Dohjok, so avoid that area for a bit and instead try picking up some quests in Zehlon Reach or The Astralarium - these should feel a bit easier for your current level.|||Quote:

I've never seen anywhere called Zehlon Reach or The Astralarium
:s|||Search the northwestern end of the first explorable (west of Kamadan) then, and you should find the Astralarium. Other exit of that one leads into Zehlon Reach.
A tip: don't do the Scholarly Affair quest when you aren't followed by Dunkoro for his main quest.|||Another tip. Do not. I repeat, do NOT do the master quest "A Decayed Monument" It's pretty hard for a low level char unless you're an experienced player.
Definately avoid it if you're going for survivor. At least until you have better armor and are at least level 12-14.|||Quote:
