Picking up GW again.

Hello.

After many years, and with all the GW2 coverage, I'm tempted to pick up GW again. I have Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall.

I have several questions now.

  1. Is it possible to play through all campaigns with only heroes? I don't play enough to make regular friends, and MMO's in general have degraded my trust in human-capability near zero.

  2. Where can I download the game? I have bought it in a shop, but the discs are in the attic, and I don't feel like climbing up there. The official site doesn't open for me, some how.

  3. Which class/combo do you recommend for me? In WoW I enjoyed the Paladin and Shaman, and a bit of Druid too, for example. Keep in mind, I want to be able to solo as much as possible.

Thanks in advance!|||All classes can very easily complete all content in Normal Mode with heroes, so just have at it.

is the download link, something must be messed up in your security settings. NCSoft may have a link as well?|||1. The all three campaigns and expansion can be completed solely with heroes and henchmen in normal mode. Hard mode could be iffy.

2. As Fluffball says.

3. Since you only have 8 skill slots and limited amount of skill points, it's much harder in GW to pull off half healer hybrid. Some type of builds that could work include smiting monk, motivation paragon, and ritualist with points into restoration. If you are just worried about survivability, I suggest leaving those to hero/hench (unless you want to go heal/prot yourself) and focus on direct damaging or support depending on which profession and play style you are going for. You should decide your secondary profession on what kind of build you want to bring to your adventures.|||I agree that you should be able to H/H all three games in normal mode. I managed to vanquish all three campaigns and do all the missions in prophecies in HM with H/H, and I'm not one of the better players. There are a few missions in both Factions and Nightfall that might be real hard with just H/H.|||Quote:

Oooh you should not have said that!|||Thanks for the replies!

Ah, the link provided works now. Maybe the site was down due to maintenance?

Anyway, I mentioned "that other game" to indicate what kind of classes/gameplay I enjoy, no other intentions.

An extra question: is it possible to play, say, Prophecies with a Dervish? Or can you only use the six original classes there?|||You can play all chapters with any character/class (minus presearing).|||Thanks. Presearing is only for the original 6 classes?

BTW, I've decided on a Dervish. Don't know yet what to pick as secundary, though.

EDIT: Apparently, not all classes can play all campaigns. The 6 originals can play every campaign, Assassin & Ritualist Factions and Paragons and Dervishes Nightfall.

Also, how do you get Heroes in non-Nightfalls campaigns?

Thanks in advance!|||Quote:

You can change secondaries relatively early in Nightfall, so don't stress over it. Warrior is a common secondary for Dervishes. But a lot of the skills to make it shine won't be available till later anyways, so I wouldn't worry too much about what you pick early.

You can play all campaigns with all professions, you just can't start all campaigns with all professions. You must start Assassins and Ritualists in Factions, Paragon and Dervishes in Nightfall. Once you get to the "dock" towns, you can freely travel to the other lands to do the storylines there. Dock towns are Lion's Arch for Prophecies, Kaineng Center for Factions, and Consulate Docks for Nightfall. Exception to this as previously noted is Pre-searing in Prophecies, which is only available to characters that start Prophecies.

You'll have to travel to Elona (Nightfall) if you start in the other campaigns. Once you're there, you'll be given the basic set of heroes. The rest you have to gain through storyline play. Same for Eye of the North if you buy the expansion.

Ok, thank you, this explains alot.

Is Eye of the North worth it?
