guild wars on steam

[:1]i am wanting to buy guild wars and then the factions and nightfall expansions for it but i have recently seen it advertised on steam?

this got me wandering could i save the whole game to steam so that i no longer need the disc to play it?

i know i used to do this with half life and counter strike but can i do this with any game that steam advertise?

my plan is that if i can do it then i will buy the games load them on to steam so i no longer need the disc then return it to the store for store credit or refund i have done this in the past but will it work with guild wars?|||Welcome to the forum, we're glad you found us. If you had posted this to the Newcomer & Questions forum we may have found an answer for you a bit sooner, But no worries, we'll get you to the right place.

In reply to your question, you do not need a game disc at all to install Guild Wars, however you will need an access code. You can download the game client from the guildwars.com website and then the game will stream the rest of the content to you as you go, however be aware it is a large amount of data. Alternatively you can use the game disc to install if you have a slower connection, but the game will still need to update afterward, it just may help speed things up for a slower connection.

The most important thing you will need is an access code though. You can get this from either:

1) packaged inside the retail box

2) purchase from the in-game store once you download and install the free client

3) purchase from another download service such as the NCsoft store or through the Steam service.

Since you need a unique access code to play it is highly unlikely that you will be able to return the opened disc to the store. Additionally, resale in this way is against the Guild Wars EULA.

I hope that helps you make your decision, and again, welcome to Tyria and the Guild Wars community. |||many thanks for your help and i fully understand where your coming from

Yep. All it takes is adding your full game key to your existing Guild Wars account and you're good to go with that account, along with the very characters you created in your trial period.
